For Real? Student Withdraws From University After He Confessed He Cheated In WAEC

Authorities of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State has said that they had accepted the voluntary withdrawal of a student, Jephtaph Abolarin, from the institution. Abolarin, a 300-Level Sociology student, had written to the university confessing to cheating during his West African Senior School Certificate Examination. Abolarin, who said he had become a ‘born again’ Christian, said continuing his university education, using an unmerited certificate would be unjust and immoral. He wrote the letter to the institution’s Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Sidiqat Ijaiya, on August 5, 2016. He said wanted to withdraw from the school as he got his WAEC through examination malpractice. Reacting to the letter on Sunday, the university Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, confirmed the withdrawal of the student. Akogun, who noted that the Senate of the university had accepted the withdrawal letter, added that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, commended Abolarin for his repentance and sincerity. The VC, Akogun added, wished Abolarin well in his future endeavour. Part of Abolarin’s letter to the DVC read br /> “Just as a house that was built on a faulty foundation will surely collapse, it is also certain that a career that is built on a faulty foundation will definitely collapse. All through my secondary school days, I was just a church ‘goer’, without genuine salvation and the fear of God. As a result, I got my WASSCE result through examination malpractice. “By the grace of God, now, I have encountered the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which called for repentance and restitution. “Sir, with deep conviction, I have realised that there is no point building my academic career on a faulty foundation; since the WASSCE result I got through malpractice is the basis in which my admission into this university was anchored. “Therefore, I have decided to withdraw from the university and start all over again.”

Why female smokers are more at higher risk of brain haemorrhage

Women indulging in smoking are more at risk of developing bleeding inside the lining of the brain, also known as subarachnoid haemorrhage, a study has warned. Subarachnoid haemorrhage is a condition of bleeding in the lining between the brain’s surface and underlying brain tissues. The findings showed that although cigarette smoking was linked to an increased risk of subarachnoid haemorrhage among both sexes, women faced the highest risk. “Female sex has been described as an independent risk factor for subarachnoid haemorrhage, but we found strong evidence that the elevated risk in women is explained by vulnerability to smoking,” said lead author Joni Valdemar Lindbohm, Physician at the University of Helsinki in Finland.

Furthermore, among light smokers (1 to 10 cigarettes per day), women were 2.95 times more likely to have subarachnoid haemorrhage compared to non-smokers, while men who smoked comparable amounts of cigarettes were 1.93 times more likely. Women who smoked 11 to 20 cigarettes per day were 3.89 times more likely to have subarachnoid haemorrhage compared to non- smokers, while men who smoked comparable amounts of cigarettes were 2.13 times more likely. Women who smoked 21 to 30 cigarettes per day were more than 8.35 times likely to have subarachnoid haemorrhage compared to non- smokers, while men who smoked comparable amounts of cigarettes were 2.76 times more likely.

China’s 1000 dancing robots break Guinness World Records

A group of 1,007 intelligent robots set a new Guinness World Record after dancing in unison for more than a minute. The robots came together at the main venue for the 2016 Qingdao International Beer Festival in the Huangdao District of Qingdao, in east China’s Shandong Province on Saturday, Chinese news site Yibada reported.

There were 1,040 robots in total, each 43.8 centimetres high, and 1,007 of them finished the challenge. The ones that fell or stopped before the one minute mark were not counted in the World Record. Quan Jinyou, the chief technology officer of Qingdao-based Ever Win Company, Ltd., the company which produced the robots, told Chinese news agency Xinhua that the biggest challenge was dealing with radio frequency interference, from mobile phones or Bluetooth devices.

Pregnant woman stages nude maternity photoshoot to encourage mothers to feel positive about their bodies

32-year-old Sonia O'Bree, from Kempsey, New South Wales has stripped off for a maternity shoot in a bid to encourage body positivity. She shared photos from the shoot which took place while she was 34 weeks pregnant with her second child to show women that all body shapes are beautiful and encourage people to ignore the pressure to look a particular way - pregnant or not. Alongside the photos which she shared on Facebook she wrote: 'I recently dared to bare my mummy curves to celebrate my womanly figure in all of its glory. 'I was very lucky to find a wonderful photographer in my local area who was willing to join me in a journey out of our comfort zones to make this shoot happen. 'Tonight she has revealed some of these images, and I honestly could not be happier with them. I'm in love with my own image, I never thought I'd say that about my curves, but I did and I am.' 'I hope my photos will encourage more women to feel positive and beautiful in their mummy curves... even if they are not mummy curves, find comfort and beauty within yourselves,' she continued 'We are, each of us different from the rest. Ms O'Bree said once she was with the photographer it was 'completely comfortable.' 'Basically I figured I needed to embrace what I am at the moment and I am so very happy with that. After seeing the photos I have a whole new outlook on my body shape,' she said. 'She sent me two of the photos as a preview and I looked at them and I was just amazed. I told her "you make my chubby bits look beautiful" and that's the way I feel. 'I can't stop looking at them and I am suddenly in love with my body. I love my baby bump of course and I just feel very empowered by the whole situation.' Ms O'Bree said she shared the photos on such a large platform because she wanted to share the change in her beliefs. 'There is so much pressure on women in general and especially now there are so many fitness fanatics posting photos and fit mums working out with their teeny tiny beautiful baby bumps,' Ms O'Bree said. 'Whether it's natural or not, not everyone is like that and the vast majority of us have curves.' 21-year-old rape survivor gang-raped again by same men who sexually assaulted her three years ago

A 21-year-old Indian student is currently recovering in the hospital after being gang-raped by a group of men including some charged with sexually assaulting her 3 years earlier, an officer said Monday. The five men abducted the student of the lowest Dalit social caste from outside her college before drugging and raping her in a car. She was found unconscious in bushes on the side of a highway last Wednesday night in Haryana which borders New Delhi. Haryana deputy superintendent of police Pushpa Khatri said the student, who is still in hospital, has identified all five men - two of whom are currently on bail awaiting trial for raping her in 2013. "She has identified the five accused and two of them were involved in the gang-rape of the student in Bhiwandi district in 2013," Khatri told AFP. "We have formed several teams to arrest the accused." The woman's family has accused the five of threatening them in the lead-up to Wednesday's attack, demanding that they withdraw the rape case lodged after the 2013 assault. "The accused were constantly threatening us to compromise outside the court. They even offered us a hefty amount for settlement. But we didn't agree," the victim's brother was quoted by the Hindustan Times as saying. The family also alleged they were forced to move to Rohtak district in the state from a neighbouring district after the 2013 attack because of harassment by the accused. Members of the Dalit caste held small protests in Rohtak on Sunday to demand justice for the victim. 17yr old boy arrested as he attempted to rape a 13yr old girl (photo)

A 17 year old teen named Garry Pinkney (pictured above), was arrested by police as he attempted to rape a 13year-old girl in the Bronx. Garry is accused of following his young victim into an elevator building on Thursday July 14th and convinced the young girl to let him into her apartment. Once he got inside, the teen armed with a knife demanded money, then forced her to perform oral sex on him before trying to rape her but was spooked by a neighbour and fled. He is now charged with attempted rape, robbery, burglary and a criminal sex act, police said.

Photos: Nigerian engineer designed and built a 100% Nigerian tractor

A Nigerian named Timothy Addigi Terfa is set to launch a Nigerian-built tractor. "I designed & built this tractor, which is 100% Nigerian, with a team of skilled individuals" said the UK-trained engineer. The tractor is designed with different attachments to cover a variety of farm jobs. He named the tractor Ijodo, meaning labour in the Tiv language. Some of the tractors have been sold, but Terfa is looking for more investment. The engineer also wants to inspire others.
