Runtown Parts Ways With Eric Manny Records, Claims Threat to Life
Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer Runtown has parted ways with his record label, Eric Manny Records (or at least he’s trying to) and they didn’t do so on the best of terms. Eric Manny, owned by billionaire businessman, Okwudili Umenyiora, has gotten a court injunction stopping Runtown from performing as an artist, amongst other things, pending when they settle their issues. Runtown got his lawyers to write to the label, claiming threat to life, extortion, and that he didn’t get his payment/royalties from performances, ring-back tunes and etc. He also said he has returned all properties he received from the label when he signed with them in 2014.
If we're faced with same situation we'd shoot the gorilla again- Zoo Director says
The director of the Cincinnati Zoo where a rare gorilla was shot and killed on Saturday after a 4-year- old boy slipped into its enclosure has said if put in the same situation again, he will kill the animal to protect the life of the child despite outcries from Animal rights activists, lawyers & wildlife conservationists over how the animal was shot. Cincinnati Zoo Director Thane Maynard said he stands by the decision to kill 17-year-old silverback Harambe to save the child. According to Maynard, those criticizing the zoo officials for killing the animal "don't understand silverback gorillas," Maynard said in a news conference on Monday. And, they were not there when it was time to make the crucial decision. "That child's life was in danger. People who question that don't understand you can't take a risk with a silverback gorilla -- this is a dangerous animal," he said. "Looking back, we'd make the same decision. The child is safe." Zoo director Maynard has refused to blame the family for what happened. "We had a very difficult situation and we made a difficult call at the end. I'm not here to point fingers about fault," he said. "We live in the real world, we make real decisions. People and kids can climb over barriers. We work hard to make sure this zoo is safe. People can climb over barriers, that's what happened." "The barriers are safe. They exceed any required protocols. The trouble with barriers, whatever the barrier is, some people get past it," he said. "The zoo is not negligent." Meanwhile the family have thanked the zoo in a statement through a public relations firm: "We are so thankful to the Lord that our child is safe. He is home and doing just fine. We extend our heartfelt thanks for the quick action by the Cincinnati Zoo staff. We know that this was a very difficult decision for them, and that they are grieving the loss of their gorilla. We hope that you will respect our privacy at this time." Source: CNN

Trending story of a 1996 incident where a Gorilla carried a 3- year-old boy to safety after he fell into its enclosure
An 8-year-old female gorilla at an Illinois zoo named Binti Jua, made worldwide headlines when she carried a boy to safety after he slipped away from his mother, climbed through a barrier and fell nearly 20 feet into the Western Lowland Gorilla Pit, located at the Brookfield Zoo, on Aug. 19, 1996. The boy who suffered a broken hand and cuts to his face was lying on the ground of the pen where six other gorillas were present, before Binti Jua picked him up around the waist, carried him safely to a door where rescuers waited as a crowd looked on. The gorilla was reportedly following her maternal instincts considering she carried her own 17-month baby on her back throughout her encounter with the boy. The rescued boy and his mother were also never identified and the now 28-year-old gorilla is still living in the Brookfield Zoo gorilla exhibit.

Killing of gorilla to save 4-year-od boy at Ohio zoo sparks outrage, over 2,000 people sign a petition
The killing of a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo on Saturday after a 4-year-old boy tumbled into the ape's enclosure triggered outrage and questions about safety, but zoo officials called the decision to use lethal force a tough but necessary choice, Reuters report. Over 2,000 people signed a petition on Change.org that sharply criticized the Cincinnati Police Department and the zoo for putting down the animal and called for the child's parents to be "held accountable for their actions of not supervising their child." Cincinnati police on Sunday said the parents had not been charged, but that charges could eventually be sought by the Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney. A spokeswoman for the prosecutor did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Authorities did not identify the child or his parents. The family could not be reached on Sunday. A Facebook page titled "Justice for Harambe" had more than 3,000 likes by Sunday afternoon, a day after the 400-pound (181-kg) gorilla was shot dead about 10 minutes after encountering and dragging the child. The animal, named Harambe, was a Western lowland gorilla, an endangered species, and the zoo said it had intended to use him for breeding. "If we think it's acceptable to kill a gorilla who has done nothing wrong, I don't think our city should have gorillas," Manvinder Singh posted on the Facebook page. A blog post on the website for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals questioned why it was necessary to kill the gorilla and whether zoos could meet the needs of such animals. "A 17-year-old gorilla named Harambe is dead, and a child is in the hospital. Why?" blogger Jennifer O'Connor wrote. "Western lowland gorillas are gentle animals. They don't attack unless they're provoked." Witnesses told local television that the boy repeatedly expressed a desire to join the gorilla in the zoo habitat. Moments later, the boy crawled through a barrier and fell about 12 feet (3.7- meters) into a moat surrounding the habitat, where Harambe grabbed him, zoo officials said. It was the first time in the 38-year history of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden's gorilla exhibit that an unauthorized person was able to get into the enclosure, zoo president Thane Maynard said on Saturday. "They made a tough choice and they made the right choice because they saved that little boy's life," he said, adding that a member of the zoo's Dangerous Animal Response Team fired the shot that killed the ape. Maynard said the team decided to use deadly force instead of tranquilizers to subdue the gorilla because it could have taken some time for the drug to take effect when an animal was in agitated state. The child was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Hospital officials, citing privacy laws, declined to say on Sunday whether the child had been released or to disclose any details about his injuries. The Cincinnati zoo was open on Sunday, although Gorilla World was expected to be closed indefinitely. Neither the zoo nor the fire department responded to a request for comment.

President Buhari's Federal Excuses Council by Reno Omokri
On January 22, 2016, I tweeted a joke which went viral. I had said that at meetings of the Federal Executive Council, the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, would address members and say 'turn to your neighbour and say, neighbour have you blamed Jonathan today'! Yes, it was a joke, but like most good jokes, it had and still has a basis in reality! The President and his ministers appear ill prepared for office and the evidence of this is their inability to take responsibility for the situation of things in Nigeria. Was it not John Burroughs who said "a man can fail many times, but he isn't a failure until he begins to blame somebody else"? Those words should be embossed on a plaque and placed in a very prominent location at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa. Seeing this admonition weekly may help members of the Federal Executive Council take responsibility and stop acting the victim. For example, Nigerians were shocked when the minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in December of 2015 that the Jonathan administration, which had left office six months ago, was responsible for the biting fuel scarcity the nation was and still is grappling with. That statement by Mr. Lai Mohammed is a classic case of psychological projection (a psychological disorder characterized by a patient defending himself against his own unpleasant realities by denying the existence of the reality while at the same time blaming another for it). And it gets worse. It is bad enough that this administration refuses to take responsibility for its own failures, it also wants to take credit for the success of others. In a treatise bothering on megalomania, the publicity and communications team of President Buhari's office claimed the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (AKA TSA) as the major achievement of the first 365 days of the Buhari administration. But for a government that prides itself on anti-corruption, that statement, fraudulent as it is, is dishonest and 'fantastically corrupt'! First of all, the Treasury Single Account WAS NOT an idea of the Buhari administration and secondly the present government DID NOT initiate its implementation. The TSA was conceived by the Jonathan administration and there was to be a staggered implementation because from an expert point of view, it was thought that if all Federal Government funds were suddenly pulled out of the commercial banking sector in one fell swoop, the shock on that sector would be so immense that it would trigger job losses and perhaps bank failures. It was thought that a gradual implementation would allow banks recover such that the baby would not be thrown out with the bath water. Enter the Buhari administration which, in a hurry to claim credit, did not tread with caution, but in one fell swoop forcefully withdrew all Federal Government funds with the threat of sanctions to non compliant banks. Rather than claim this as an achievement, this administration should chalk this one up as a big failure because in their rush to implement something that should have been gradual they have unleashed an unintended consequence on the banking sector such that Nigerian banks over the last year have shed something like 50,000 jobs. As a matter of fact, the pro- Buhari Leadership Newspaper had as a major headline on September 12, 2015, 'Banks Begin Massive Sack Over Treasury Single Account'! Yet, even as the reality of their rushed action stares them in the face, a Presidential spokesman has the nerve to accuse former President Jonathan of lacking the will to implement the TSA! And the excuses continue! In order to explain away its lackluster performance, various ministers and mouthpieces of the current administration have been touring media houses blaming the precarious state of the economy on the refusal of the Jonathan administration to save for the rainy day when crude oil prices were high. In fact, President Buhari himself said "In the First Republic, more enduring infrastructure was built with meager resources. But in the past 16 years, we made a lot of money without planning for the rainy day.” But even as this administration is set on revising history, it should not be forgotten so soon that the Jonathan administration met about $6.5 billion in the Excess Crude Account, ECA, and increased it to almost $9 billion by 2012. However, the Nigerian Governors Forum, using their influence at the House of Representatives, had gotten that August body to declare the Excess Crude Account illegal in 2012. So excruciating was the pressure from the NGF and most notably from then then Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, for the Jonathan administration to end the Excess Crude Account and the Sovereign Wealth Fund and instead share the funds in those accounts amongst the three tiers of government that they approached the Supreme Court, to challenge the legality of the Excess Crude Account and Jonathan's decision to transfer $1 billion from that account to the Sovereign Wealth Fund. Working in tandem with Amaechi and his supporters in the NGF, the then minority APC members of the House of Representatives approached a Federal High Court on the 7th of February, 2014, for a perpetual injunction restraining the Jonathan administration from operating the ECA and to pay all the proceeds of that account into the Federation Account for sharing amongst the three tiers of government. So it is quite clear that President Buhari made the accusation he made on April 4th, 2016 without cross checking the facts or consulting history. If the President is not happy that more funds were not saved in the Excess Crude Account, he should call a Federal Executive Council meeting and ask members to get up and point accusing fingers at his ministers of transport and Power, Works and Housing. In the last 365 days, the most consistent thing that has emanated from the Federal Executive Council is blames, excuses, finger pointing and a refusal to accept responsibility. As at last count, the President and his ministers have excused their inability to stem the economic tide, fully defeat Boko Haram, provide jobs for Nigerians, maintain the availability of petrol, fix roads and improve power on the previous administration. The funniest thing is that just as the media team of the Buhari led Presidency was reeling out its achievement in office on its first anniversary, two state governors were also doing the same thing. The shocking thing however is that if you get the list of achievements released by Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike and Lagos state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, and compare them with what has been released by the Presidency, the shocking verdict is that in terms of tangible achievements, like roads built and houses constructed and public infrastructure, both of these states have individually outperformed the Federal Government! Do not take my word for it. Google their released anniversary documents and compare and contrast them by yourself. Ignore such silly and intangible achievements included in the Presidential list like 'motivated the military' and 'no more road blocks and curfews' (believe me, the President's team listed these as his achievements!) and focus on tangibles like roads constructed or hospitals built etc and it becomes clear to even the most brainwashed Buhari supporter that both Lagos and Rivers individually beat the Federal Government hands down. Both Wike and Ambode took over from predecessors that did not really support them and who left huge debts and a high monthly wage bill, yet despite these seeming obstacles, both of them have proven the adage true that you will either find a way or you will find an excuse. And for those who are saying that it is not realistic to expect a new government to achieve much, let me remind them that in his first year in office, former President Jonathan did not deliver excuses or blames. In fact in his first year, former President Jonathan revived the Nigerian Railway Corporation and for the first time in decades the Lagos to Kano rail services commenced in 2012 at a cost of ₦1500. He also built nine new universities including the only federal university in Katsina state where President Buhari hails from. Inflation reduced from 10.2% to 9.4% in his first year and remained at single digits throughout his tenure. Average Life Expectancy increased from 47 years to 52 years (according to the UN). In the same period he also launched the NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X satellites to expand Internet Bandwidth and provide early warning to prevent natural disasters as well established the Automotive Development Fund amongst others. Many Nigerians must be wondering that if the Jonathan administration was as bad as the Buhari government says it is, then how come he had to leave office before they started experiencing double digit inflation, negative economic growth rate and 'budget padding'? In conclusion, the word 'execute' means to carry out or put into effect something. When you have a body of men and women who are not carrying out anything, it is hard to see how you can honestly call them a Federal Executive Council. What are they executing? Put it this way, are you an executive if all you do is execute excuses?

Real Madrid v Atlético Madrid: Champions League final – live! All the action from the final at the San Siro
Preamble So here we are then. For the second time in three seasons the Champions League final is an all-Madrid affair. Two years ago at the Estadio da Luz Atlético were seconds – seconds – from victory before Sergio Ramos’s headed an equaliser and Diego Simeone’s shattered side suffered something of an extra-time meltdown. Revenge is in the air in Milan tonight. Simeone says the scars of Lisbon have healed but he’s fooling nobody. Real are the narrow favourites and Atlético relish the role of underdogs but to paint them as plucky happy-go-lucky upstarts would be a mischaracterisation. This isn’t really the Evil Empire v the Ewoks. There’s plenty of enjoyment to be had in the win-at-all-costs-and-I-mean- ALL-costs mentality that Simeone has imbued in his side but it doesn’t necessarily make them universally likeable. Still, few outside the white half of the city would begrudge Atletico a redemptive victory at San Siro this evening. Road to the final For Real it has been plain sailing – a group-stage campaign featuring five wins, blemished only by a 0-0 draw in Paris against PSG and concluded with an 8-0 walloping of Malmo. Roma should’ve made Real pay for their sloppiness in the last 16 but were eventually swatted aside 4-0 on aggregate; Wolfsburg did make Real pay in their quarter-final first leg but their 2-0 lead was wiped out within 17 minutes at the Bernabeu and Cristiano Ronaldo finished the job (and his hat-trick) in the second half. Manchester City provided stubborn resistance in the semis but Fernando’s own goal was enough for a 1-0 Real win. Atletico’s road has been rather rockier. A home defeat against Benfica and a 0-0 draw in Astana left them sweating with two games to go in the group stage before two wins took them over the line with plenty to spare. In the last 16 there were 210 goal- less minutes against PSV before the two sides showed they could actually find the target in a thrilling penalty shootout, Atleti running out 8-7 winners. Barcelona awaited in the quarters and a couple of Antoine Griezmann suckerpunches in the second leg led to a 3-2 aggregate win. Bayern also suffered at the hands of the France forward, Griezmann’s goal at the Allianz Arena proving the difference as Atleti advanced on away goals. Previous meetings Recent history looks pretty good for Diego Simeone’s side. Atlético have lost only one of their last 10 Madrid derbies – the 1-0 defeat in the quarter-finals of this competition in April 2015. That game was the last of eight meetings between the sides last season, with Atletico going unbeaten in the other seven. Their two meetings in this campaign ended in a 1-1 draw at the Calderon back in October and a 1-0 Atleti win at the Bernabeu (courtesy of an Antoine Griezmann goal) in late February. And if you want the full breakdown: this is the 201st meeting between the sides. Of the previous 200, Real have won 102, Atléti 50 and there have been 48 draws. Recent form Real ended the La Liga season with 12 wins on the bounce, a run that began after that February defeat to their neighbours but one that was interspersed with a couple of less impressive European performances – namely that almost bizarre defeat in Wolfsburg in the last eight and the 0-0 draw at the Etihad in the semis. Atlético couldn’t quite match the late season form of their neighbours from across the Spanish capital. Their were 10 wins in those dozen post- derby league fixtures but crucially two defeats – at Gijon in mid-March then, painfully, at Levante on the penultimate matchday of the campaign. There were away defeats against Barcelona and Bayern too in the Champions League but Simeone’s side still found ways to get the job done. Kick-off … is 7.45pm BST.
£150m transfer wishlist
JOSE MOURINHO has reportedly targeted seven players for his Manchester United revolution. By Colin Harvey / Published 27th May 2016 The Portuguese was announced as the new Red Devils boss earlier today and it looks like he is wasting no time in his recruitment drive. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has tweeted to list the seven players on the former Chelsea boss' wishlist. Zlatan Ibrahimovic heads the field and would be a perfect solution to United's lack of goals. But he could be joined by Juventus striker Alvaro Morata who is expected to fetch £40m this summer. Valencia midfielder Andre Gomes also features and would inject some pace into United's ponderous midfield. RELATED VIDEOS Mourinho is said to be concerned about the heart of United's defence and has targeted four potential central defenders. Roma's Kostas Manolas, Real Madrid's Raphael Varane, John Stones of Everton and Zenit's Ezequiel Garay are all candidates for a summer switch. Mourinho is likely to be backed in the market and it thought to have been handed a £150m transfer war chest.

This honest girl returned N5,000 back to a bank after a cashier over paid her
The lady tells her story below... “I just want to share my experience, My name is Vera Ikediala. I worked with Bethelmendels Int’l Ltd as an admin Manager. One morning my Boss gave me a cheque to cash N45,000 at Olowu Ikeja branch of First bank. The cashier paid me across the counter, in 1000 naira bills. But because I was in a hurry I did not count the amount. So when I got to the office I handed the money straight to my boss who counted it and discovered that it was N50,000, instead of N45,000. That means the cashier had over paid me with excess of N5,000. Immediately I went back to the bank to hand over the N5,000 back to the cashier. When I got to the bank, it was obvious the cashier had not noticed her error in payment. I had to explain to her what happened. She was indeed over joyed and thanked me profusely. But what shocked me was that the guy closed to me on queue, who overheard our conversation interjected; “ if I was the one, I would not have returned that money lai lai”. He continued; “ babe you fall my hand. Do you know what N5,000 would do for you” I did not bother to reply him anyway. For me, I had done the needful Many people might think this testimony is trivial. But let me tell you, that dishonesty is dishonesty. Somebody who keeps N5,000 that does not belong to him would as well keep N5 billion. I am sharing this experience so that many of us would understand that if we show honesty in the little things we do daily, collectively we could rid this country of corruption. I had a an opportunity to keep the N5,000 to myself. My conscience and upbringing won’t allow me. There was no way the cashier would traced the money to me. But God sees all that we do. If I had kept the money the cashier would pay for her error in great pains. But of what good would that be to me? Have a great day...

Increase of petrol pump price is a global thing and not just in Nigeria-NNPC general manager says
The general manager of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Garba Deen, says increase in petroleum pump price is happening globally and not just in Nigeria. According to him, top oil producing country, United Arab Emirates, has removed its transportation fuel subsidy and plans to deregulate its oil sector with effect from August 1st.
He also said Saudi Arabia is planning to increase its petrol pump price. Deen said this while speaking to newsmen in Abuja yesterday May 16th.
"For instance, the United Arab Emirates, the third-biggest oil producer in OPEC, has become the first country in the oil-rich Persian Gulf to remove transport fuel subsidies. In addition, the country has announced that with effect from August 1, 2016, fuel prices will be deregulated. Also, in response to fiscal pressure caused by the fall in crude oil prices, OPEC’s top oil producer Saudi Arabia has announced a plan to raise fuel prices. You can now see that this is indeed a global problem. The truth is that the NNPC does not have the resources for, nor is it designed to meet this increase in supply. The result is the crippling fuel situation across the country. Pushed to supply 90 per cent of the products required for domestic consumption, the NNPC has continued to utilise crude oil volumes outside the 445,000 barrels per day allocated to it, thereby creating major funding and remittance gaps into the Federation Account. As I said earlier, there is no provision for subsidy in the 2016 budget. The erstwhile petrol price of N86.50 gives an estimated subsidy claim of N13.7 per litre, which translates to N16.4 billion monthly. There is neither funding nor appropriation to cover this.”he said

N145 pump price: FG, Labor meeting ends in deadlock, to continue today
The meeting between the Federal government and organized labor over the planned strike against the recently increased pump price of petrol, ended in a deadlock yesterday night and will continue today May 17th.
At the meeting, Labor leaders insisted that the only way the planned strike action will be shelved is for the Federal government to review the minimum wage upwards, improve the palliatives to cushion the effects of the fuel price hike on Nigerians and reconstitution of the board of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).
At the meeting, the Federal government delegation recognized the genuine request of the labor leaders for an increase in minimum wage but however stated that the timing for such an increase is wrong as the Federal government is presently grappling with financial crunch. Present at the meeting which lasted over 4 hours were Ayuba Wabba, President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, President of National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Igwe Achese, and President of Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), Olabode Johnson, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, President of the TUC, Bobboi Bala Kiagama, NLC General Secretary, Peter Ozo-Eson, and the acting General Secretary of Trade Union Congress, Mr. Simeso Amachree, among others. Others are the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, and the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly, Sen. Ita Enang, among others.
