Vanguard reports that the governor announced this on Friday, June 24, a few days after the arraignment of a suspected serial rapist, Haruna Tukur, at Kaduna High Court. The 24-year-old man was arraigned for forcefully having carnal knowledge of a 5-year- old girl at Malali suburb of Kaduna in February. He was also alleged to have been fingered in several similar offences, but had always evaded justice. Addressing the press conference on behalf of his principal, Sam Aruwan, the governor’s spokesman, stressed that Tukur and other culprits would face the law. “On behalf of the governor, I wish to call the attention of the public and call for their cooperation on the increasing cases of rape, especially of minors in Kaduna state. READ ALSO: This must have shocked Governor El-Rufai beyond words “You were all there yesterday in court, when Haruna Tukur was brought to court for defiling a 5- year-old girl. “This is a man that had been arrested and brought before the law in the past. He will jump bail, just to be arrested and brought to the police on the same offence. “The governor is very sad about this, and he wants to make sure that people like Tukur go through the legal process that will determine his crime or not, set him free or convict him. “There is also the case of a woman who specialises in trafficking children between the age of 3 and 5 to some men. We don’t know what she stands to gain from that, and why these men are doing that. We will let you know when she will be arraigned in the court. We have many cases like that,” he said. Aruwan assured people of the state that the governor would do his best to ensure that no one would destroy the future of a minor, or any girl or lady through the destructive use of rape and go free. He also assured everyone who knows any victim of rape of adequate protection if he volunteers information. Meanwhile, 4,035 cases of sexual and child abuse were recorded in Lagos state in the last one year.
